Books Coming in 2012 (February Edition)

Whether or not I’ll actually go ahead and do this monthly, I don’t know. It all depends! But I came across these wonderful “Coming Up” posts on Rel’s blog, called Relz Reviewz. Relz Reviewz includes various reviews, interviews, giveaways, and character spotlights (interviews with characters, essentially). But the posts that caught my eyes most recently are the ones that have links below – the Coming Up posts. I love the idea for these posts! So I’m reproducing them in part right here. Coming Up posts are lists of the books coming up from specific publishers – that’s how Rel does it. Mine aren’t in any order, actually. Just the books I’m looking forward to, “stolen” from Rel’s lists. Let me encourage you to read her posts! I’ve included links at the bottom – you’ll find a lot more books there. Now, the books I’m anticipating:

With Every Letter by Sarah Sundin (I loved Blue Skies Tomorrow and can’t wait to read more by her!) September 2012

When a Heart Stops by Lynette Eason (I loved When the Smoke Clears and again, can’t wait to read this sequel!) October 2012

A Love Surrendered by Julie Lessman (Loved A Hope Undaunted and A Heart Revealed was good too!) October 2012

A Flight of Fancy by Laurie Alice Eakes (Haven’t read anything by her yet, but have seen dozens of positive reviews of her books) October 2012

Undending Devotion by Jody Hedlund August 2012

At Every Turn by Anne Mateer (Sounds really exciting!) September 2012

The Bridesmaid by Beverly Lewis September 2012

No Safe Harbor by Elizabeth Ludwig October 2012

Against the Tide by Elizabeth Camden October 2012

Harvest of Rubies by Tessa Afshar (!! Loved Pearl in the Sand, love this cover!) May 2012

A Duke’s Promise by Jamie Carie (Loved the cover of Guardian Duke and have heard good reviews) September 2012

Abducted by Janice Cantore (Looks exciting!) August 2012

A few more that Rel didn't mention (in these posts) but that I'm anticipating...Rare Earth by Davis Bunn -- coming out July 2012.

The Secret Keeper by Sandra Byrd June 2012

Mary Magdalene by Mary Wallis Taylor June 2012

Glamorous Illusions by Lisa T. Bergren

Through My Eyes

Author: Tim Tebow
Genre: Life
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5
Type: Biography
Time period: Present
My overall opinion: It was very good. Tim Tebow seems to have a very strong faith, and altogether seems like a very nice young man. Eeeek, I begin to sound like a grandmother! I enjoyed the book. Would have helped if I had understood the game of football…no, I don’t. :P But this book definitely made me feel like I know Tim Tebow, and I’ll cheer for him!

Movie: The Sting

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8
Genre: Adventure
Primary actors: Paul Newman, Robert Redford
Length: Just over two hours
Time period: 1930’s
Year it came out: 1973
My overall opinion: Oh wow. What WAS my overall opinion? I guess I’ll start with stuff to avoid…there is some semi-extreme immodesty, and swear words are interspersed throughout. So please keep this in mind before saying that I wholly recommend it!!!! The storyline is confusing. Sort of. Thankfully, I had two parents who made it their full-time job for the evening to explain it as we watched, with the naturally desired result that I “got it” in the end. However, be warned, unless your parents do the same, you probably won’t be all clear until you’ve seen it a few times. It’s set in Depression era America, and includes gangsters. Just about everyone in the movie is a gangster. Some of it is laugh-out-loud funny. The whole shebang is that there are good gangsters and bad gangsters. They’re all moderately bad, but some are worse. Yeah, a little confusing. But hey, I still found it a fun movie! You definitely won’t expect the ending.

Spotlight: Jane Bennet

Jane Bennet (Pride and Prejudice 1995)

Played by the one who I considered perfect for the part, Susannah Harker.

With Lizzy.

Left to right: Lydia, Elizabeth, Jane, Mary, and Kitty.

With Mr. and Mrs. Bennet as well.

A very small picture with Bingley.

Left to right: Lydia, Jane, Mary, Kitty, and Elizabeth.

Finally! With Bingley.

Left to right: Mary, Elizabeth, Jane, and Charlotte Lucas.

Eleanor: Crown Jewel of Aquitaine

Author: Kristiana Gregory
Genre: Journal
Series: The Royal Diaries (not really a series, more of a set – diaries of princesses from around the world in all different historical eras)
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8
Type: Historical fiction
Number of pages: 187
Time period: 1100’s
My overall opinion: It was good. A few times, body functions are mentioned (as happens with some regularity in this series) but it’s not explicit, and I would allow my younger sisters (ages 12 and 14) to read this. I think it’s fairly accurate, but since there’s not a ton of info about Eleanor, some is certainly fiction.

Birthday: Josh Groban

Josh Groban

Birth: February 27, 1981

It’s his 31st birthday!

You know him because – he’s a greatly loved Christian/classical singer. He’s come out with many albums.

Birthday: Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor

Birth: February 27, 1932

Death: March 23, 2011

It’s her 80th birthday!

You know her because – she was the star of many movies, some good, some not so good. One of the most famous is Cleopatra, but the only one I’ve seen is Taming of the Shrew.

Spotlight: Gilbert Blythe

Hi there! It's Alyianna again with my second and last guest post - on Gilbert Blythe. I hope you all like it. I decided to concentrate on the Gilbert side that wanted to be with Anne...which, of course, meant I had to have some Anne Shirley in this post, too.

~                     ~                     ~

Well, the elegant and illustrious Miss Shirley. Relaxed while seeking out ideas for her next Rollings Reliable writing assignment, I presume.

He loved Anne Blythe from the very beginning, when she was not interested in him in the least.

Unfortunately, he didn't get off to a good start with Anne, calling her by the most detestable nickname to her ears...

Psst! Carrots! Carrots!

After that, Anne ignored him in a very crushing way. Even when Gilbert finally won Anne's friendship, he did not win her love.

Have you ever felt sorry for a person in a movie, who had to wait the whole movie to win another's love? That's what Gilbert had to face.

You just think that you love me.

Anne, I've loved you as long as I can remember. I need you.

~ ~ ~

Anne, there's not going to be any wedding anymore.

You're gonna get well, Gil. I know you are.

I called it off. It wouldn't be fair to Christine.

There would never be anyone for me but you.

It'll be three years before I finish medical school. Even then there won't be any diamond sunbursts or marble halls.

You know, every day I would pick a different memory of you and play it over and over and over again in my mind, until every hair, every freckle, every part of you was exactly as I remembered.

I've loved you ever since the day you broke your slate over my head.
